A Sonnet for Honey Boo Boo

Start here

I don’t quite understand the bully-like fandom that comes with exploitative reality television.  Let’s just suffice to say that the freak show is alive and well — even if it doesn’t take place at the circus anymore.  Rumors are even circulating that Barbara Walters is considering Honey Boo Boo one of her “Most Fascinating People” of 2012.  That poor, poor child.

Why won’t anyone say that this is wrong?

Why don’t the cops shut this down quickly

She sings to Mountain Dew its own love song

One can be “healthy” and still be sickly

Rather than sets and a camera crew

Social Services should have stepped right in

Go-Go Juice makes the girl act a fool

But the audience is still tuning in

“Now they are actually better off

They might not stress for money anymore”

The Georgia gang is anything but soft

Smell the roadkill outside the kitchen door

How badly do you want the world to see?

Here comes exploitation on your TV!

Ok, so while researching info for my column today I saw the name Honey Boo Boo for the first time. Keep in mind I was looking for info regarding my competition for Sexiest Man Alive 2013 (probably my last shot at this). I’m a little freaked out by this child. Thanks for reminding me.
